His ideal date would be, “sitting [and] looking at the water, taking a walk. Anything. Going to a batting range.”

Save Ellis Island outtakes
posted by dorka on September 11, 2007

"My grandfather spoke Italian," Giovinazzo said when he shared his story with We Are Ellis Island. "He came over from Naples. The boat that he took left Naples [in] 1923. He arrived here in May, just two years after my grandfather from Oslo, Norway arrived here in May of 1921." Giovinazzo's grandmother also came through Ellis Island when she was only seven years old.

Giovinazzo is proud of his heritage. "To be only second-generation American is pretty amazing," he said, "and when you think about what they did, it makes you realize how good we have it." Visiting Ellis Island for the first time was "really emotional" for Giovinazzo, who said that family history is very important to his mother. Walking through the buildings on the island, Giovinazzo said that "[y]ou really feel the spirit of it." read more

Thanks to Brittney for passing this along.

In CSI: New York's third season, Carmine Giovinazzo's popular character, Danny Messer, moved beyond the emotional turmoil he went through in the show's first two seasons and found something incredibly rare for TV characters: happiness with another regular character on the show. Giovinazzo took some time out of his hiatus break to talk to CSI Files' Kristine Huntley about the relationship between Danny and Lindsay Monroe and his hopes for a return to his character's passionate roots in the show's upcoming fourth season. read more

When Giovinazzo was younger, he had visions of being a baseball player, but an injury turned him to acting, Potocki said.

Giovinazzo speculates about why people watch the show. “People like to watch people in uncomfortable positions, I guess. … But it’s also watching people solving a mystery and that’s something people are always interested in.” read entire article

What’s your typical day?
"Usually it’s a 10-12 hour day. But they’ve been spreading it out pretty nicely recently."

How long does it take to do an episode?
Eight days. It is quick to do 50 minutes; it’s almost like a mini-movie. The whole season takes 10 months out of the year. It’s work, man! It’s the hardest work I’ve done so far.

It must be cool to be part of CSI, though?
Yeah, it is cool. It’s brought me to London – I was there last year doing some promotion. I did a thing for Channel 5 in London, a little commercial bit. I’ve never seen it but I’d like to! I’m lucky to have this job! read more

posted by dorka on November 29, 2006

Something remarkable happened while shooting this season’s opening episode of CSI: NY. Instead of the usual nose-holding over the rotting corpse du jour, the actors huddling around the playback monitors were doing puppy-dog head tilts and whispering, “Awww.” “It was so sweet,” says Melina Kanakaredes, who plays the normally tough-talking detective Stella Bonasera. “I mean, Mac and Peyton are adorable together.”

Sweet? Adorable? Is this CSI: NY or 7th Heaven? After two seasons of by-the-book forensic gumshoeing, the crime drama’s focus has suddenly shifted to topics that are decidedly more... cuddly. And it’s not just the actors who are cooing. New personal story lines — including the burgeoning affair between hard-bitten Manhattan investigator Mac Taylor (Gary Sinise) and Dr. Peyton Driscoll (Claire Forlani), a British medical examiner — are helping push CSI: NY into ratings territory normally dominated by the original CSI and CSI: Miami.

“In terms of the franchise, CSI: NY was definitely the new Coke for a while, but now everybody’s on to it,” says Anthony E. Zuiker, an executive producer of unimaginable fortune for having created all three CSIs. Since Law & Order moved to Fridays, roughly 16.8 million viewers are now tuning in to CSI: NY weekly, making it the No. 5 scripted series on TV. That’s up from No. 14 the first two seasons. “I’ve been traveling through a lot of airports lately,” says Sinise, “and I’ve never gotten so much, ‘Hey, man, great show’ or ‘Love ya, Mac.’ Something definitely shifted.”

click to enlarge As local dignitaries marched down New Dorp Lane during the 16th annual Staten Island Columbus Parade yesterday, the crowd's attention was split between a heartthrob actor from the hit TV series "CSI: New York" and GOP state attorney general candidate Jeanine Pirro.

Actor Carmine Giovinazzo, who grew up in Mariners Harbor, had the leading role of grand marshal, but the troubled Mrs. Pirro nearly upstaged him as she walked beside him for the procession from New Dorp High School to South Railroad Avenue.

Hundreds in the crowd of thousands cheered for her, wore T-shirts bearing her name or held signs of endorsement as she passed. And both local and state Republicans showed unmistakable support for the former Westchester County district attorney, who is disputing accusations that surfaced last week that she planned to set up an illegal wiretap to spy on her husband, Al Pirro, because she believed was having an affair.

'New York' Goes Bungee Jumping In "People With Money"
posted by dorka on July 3, 2006

In the third season premiere of CSI: New York, entitled "People With Money," the show will take a plunge over the Brooklyn Bridge.

According to CSI Files sources, Mac, Stella, and Lindsay investigate the death of Sam McFarland, whose body is found at the Brooklyn Bridge. An earring at the scene leads Mac and Stella to Carla Daniels, an adventurous girl in her 20s who was at the scene of the crime, but not exactly to murder Sam. Carla and her boyfriend have an affinity for bungee sex – which is exactly what it sounds like. Carla was arrested for burglary when she was 16, and Mac and Stella wonder if she was trying to rob again.

But Carla debunks their theory. As she and her boyfriend were getting ready to leave, she witnessed Sam climbing over the railing, bloody and calling for help. Carla maintains she was the one who called the police, she and her boyfriend picked up their things and left. She swears again she didn't hurt or steal from Sam: she was only there to have sex with her boyfriend as they both plunged into the East River at 100 miles an hour.

Further evidence leads the CSIs to the Lollipop Club, a high end strip club where Sam apparently spent a lot of his time. Mac and Stella talk to Dori Robbins, a pregnant stripper who makes a lot of money showing off her belly. Dori last saw Sam the night before, when he'd asked her to marry him. Dori is shocked to hear Sam is dead, and admits she was at the Brooklyn Bridge – that's where Sam proposed. Dori also informs them that three months before, Sam was trying to pay her money to stay out of his life. Stella wonders if that made Dori angry and Dori admits it did, but not angry enough to kill him, after all – why would she kill the father of her baby? Dori's argument is compelling, but the CSIs have learned to trust no one.

Meanwhile, Danny and Hawkes investigate a murder at the penthouse of the Mandarin Oriental. Beverly May was 24 years old and the heiress of a fortune. She was found by her best friend Margo Deming, who tried to revive Beverly, but it was clear Beverly was already gone. Like most people with money, however, Beverly had a dark side that ultimately may have lead to the end of her short life.

"People With Money" will also see the introduction of a new detective. Jennifer Angell is described as, "young, bright, sees everything." The detective also has tattooed roses around her wrist, but despite her appearances she's all business. Jennifer has been training as a detective and in the episode will finally go solo. She'll be working with Danny and Hawkes.

Please note that the above plot details have not been confirmed by CBS, Alliance Atlantis or Bruckheimer Films, and until such time you should treat this information as you would any other rumour. The above information comes from early script drafts and the details of the episodes are liable to change before the episodes are shown.

"People With Money" is expected to air this September.

Just asking: A conversation with Carmine Giovinazzo
posted by dorka on May 26, 2006

Carmine Giovinazzo, as Det. Danny Messer in the hit television show "CSI: NY," has become a familiar face to television audiences. But the former baseball player, turned professional actor about a dozen years ago, is far from one-dimensional.

Feature film credits include "Black Hawk Down," "The Red Zone," "Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss," "For Love of the Game," "The Big Brass Ring" and "In Enemy Hands."

His television credits include guest-starring roles in "The Guardian," "UC: Undercover," "Providence" and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation." He has appeared on all three "CSI" series.

The 32-year-old Staten Island native, in his now-familiar New York accent, talked frankly about life in Hollywood and future career goals as the show's season finale approaches next week.

"It's just about working," he said of his move to California. "We film 10 months out of the year, 12 hours a day. It takes eight days to film one episode."

Giovinazzo, on an intensive, week-long CBS promotional tour, stopped Wednesday in Chicago - in part to throw out the first pitch at the White Sox/Angels game. The former shortstop was once poised to sign a minor league contract. The former shortstop at Port Richmond High School and Wagner College in New York City was eying a minor league contract, before injury.
